7 Practical Reasons to Buy a Dome as Your Garden Office

By Sarah Gill inGarden Office

Things have been a little turbulent in the past couple of years, and many of us can say our lifestyle looks a little – or a lot – different than it did before the pandemic. For some, the biggest change has been transitioning to working from home – either part-time or even full-time. And as we’ve discovered, this has its advantages as well as its challenges.

When we’re working at home, it’s still important to have a separate working space. Not only does this eliminate the distractions of everyday home life, but it also helps us get in and out of ‘work mode’. Even a short walk to the bottom of the garden and back helps our brain switch on or off again. It makes it easier to focus while working and helps get into deep work. If you want to buy a garden office consider choosing a garden dome. These stylish and eco-friendly domes offer many other practical benefits that make them a great alternative to the traditional garden shed.

1. No Permission Required

Most small garden structures are classed as outbuildings and therefore don’t need planning permission in the UK, as long as they meet certain requirements. For example, if a structure is single storey with a maximum eave height of 2.5 metres and a maximum floor area of 15m2 then it will fall within permitted dimensions and can be installed without a permit. Both the Hypedome Mini and Hypedome S garden office pods are within these measurements, so if you’re considering one of these as a home office for your garden then chances are you’re good to go. Just keep in mind that there are exceptions, so be sure to consult with local authorities before you get started.

2. You Will Get It Instantly

As well as saving you time by not requiring a permit, a Hypedome garden office kit will be with you in two to three weeks, not the six to eight months of a traditional garden office structure. Once it’s arrived, you won’t need someone to put it up for you – as long as you can find a willing person to help you, the two of you can have it up and ready to go in a day. This also means that if you change your mind about its location or move house, you can have it down and up again just as easily. On the other hand, if DIY isn’t your thing you can order an optional assembly service in the UK, and we will organise everything for you. You’ll still have your new office in a few weeks – in the meantime, you can start browsing for your office furniture!

3. No Foundations Needed

Whatever outdoor surface you’ve got will be absolutely fine for setting up a garden office dome. You won’t have to worry about pouring concrete or buying the specialised foundations that some other outdoor structures require. If you have wooden decking, the kit will come with special screws to attach it, or you can choose stainless steel stakes for anchoring it to ground surfaces like soil, gravel, grass or sand. There are even kits to attach it to hard surfaces like concrete. Once it’s up, you can then choose to add a soft floor membrane or a modular insulated base, depending on what’s underneath it. As a finishing touch you can add a round carpet or robust coconut coir matting, or bring out your colourful side and throw down your favourite rug!

4. It Will Save You Money

If you’re intending a permanent move to home or hybrid work, then investing in a garden office is a worthwhile move, as it can easily be repurposed when you retire. However a traditional prefab garden office can be expensive, often starting at around £20,000 and ranging up to £50,000 – not to mention the cost of preparing the foundation. But a complete garden office kit from Hypedome is just €7.704,00 and includes everything you need to set it up. It’s cheap to heat or cool down, plus any add-ons can be retro-fitted – so if you’re full of garden office ideas that you can’t afford just yet, you can easily add them on later.

5. It Has a Spacious Interior

Because of the round base the Hypedome garden pod doesn’t take up as much of your garden as a square or rectangular structure would, and the combination of clear and mirrored surface makes it unobtrusive in your garden. From the inside, the office dome is surprisingly spacious – the large clear panel provides a panoramic view while the mirrored wall ensures shade and privacy. There’s plenty of room in the Hypedome S for two desks to fit comfortably, or you could swap one out for a sofa to collapse on when you need a break!

6. Repurpose It on the Weekend

Speaking of sofas, there’s no reason your garden home office can’t be put to good use in the evenings or on weekends. Just add a small table for snacks and some LED strip lights and you’ve got an instant Netflix room or party space for you and your friends. It can also make an ideal distraction-free spot for the kids to do their homework or for those weekend family Zoom calls. Or perhaps you’d prefer to have it all to yourself, so you can sit and sip your coffee in the morning with nothing but the sound of the birds to disturb you!

7. It’s a Unique Talking Point

Garden designers agree that as well as making a plot look bigger, curved shapes can make a space more calming, as they soften harsh edges and make the area feel more private – what better choice for a workspace? Instead of intruding into the garden, a clear and mirrored dome will blend into it, and is sure to get your friends asking you where they can find their own garden office for sale. In fact, it’ll probably get the neighbours intrigued as well, so why not invite them around to have a look – it’s sure to get the conversation started!

Create a Perfect Garden Office

If you’re imagining yourself sitting in your very own garden office pod, hosting a meeting with no background noise and only needing a short walk through the garden to be home again, then an insulated garden office dome could be the answer to your dreams. With a Hypedome garden office kit you can be set up and ready to go in no time – and when you’re done, you’ve got a ready-made place to relax. You can easily choose all your accessories and features in our online shop. Once you’ve got it up and running the only decision left will be who else you’re going to let in!
