• Somewhere flat to put it. Your existing garden surface almost always works, with no platform or foundation needed. We get into the surface options a bit further down.

Where it sits — and what you don’t need

You probably already know exactly where the dome will go in your garden. The question is what’s underneath — and the good news is, a Hypedome doesn’t ask much of the ground it sits on. Almost any flat outdoor surface works:

• Grass — lay it directly, anchor it down. Works.
• Paving or patio — existing slabs, no prep required.
• Gravel — common in garden corners, and a perfectly good base.
• Soil — use the included anchors, you’re done.
• A deck — a customer favourite, often built specifically for the dome. Beautiful when it fits the look you want, but not necessary — the other surfaces above work just as well. Totally up to you.

The one real requirement is that the surface must be level. For most flat or near-flat existing garden surfaces, that’s already the case — no prep needed. If your spot has noticeable slope, you’ll need to level it first before installing the dome.

And one common worry, addressed clearly: you do not need to build a platform or deck before installing your Hypedome. The most common assumption we hear — “I’ll have to lay something first” — is wrong for almost every garden setup we see.

If you’d like a polished, level, insulated floor inside the dome, the optional Modular Base adds one. A nice upgrade if it fits your project, but optional.

Add-ons that might fit your use

With the dome itself and a surface sorted, you’ve covered the essentials. From here, the rest is a question of how you’d like to use it. The accessory range is wide on purpose, because different owners use their domes for very different things — pick what matches your plan.

• Hype.Wall insulation — for proper year-round use. Adds warmth in winter, shading in summer, sound dampening throughout.
• Soft Floor — a membrane that creates a barrier between the dome and the ground. A genuinely useful addition for everyday use.
• Solid Port Door — an upgrade from the included membrane zip door, for a more finished look and a little extra security. Optional — the standard door already handles entry on its own.
• Window panels — opening sections for ventilation and a bit of breeze. A small upgrade that earns its keep in summer.
• Heating and lighting — depends entirely on what you’ll do in the dome, and when.
• Furniture — not something we sell, but worth thinking about. The dome is a blank room: make it a bedroom, a lounge, a playroom, a yoga space, a reading nook — entirely up to you.

What it costs to run

Once the dome is up, the ongoing investment is intentionally light. No service contract to sign, no annual inspection to book, no specialist trades to call back. Most months, you won’t think about maintenance at all.

• Cleaning — give it a deep clean once a year with a power washer, especially if you have trees or seasonal pollen nearby. A hose and water handles everything in between.
• Lifespan — 15+ years. Tested to 150 km/h (93 mph), designed for 120 km/h (75 mph).
• Electricity — depends entirely on what you plug in. AC in summer if you want it cooler, a heating fan in winter, lighting whenever — the dome runs happily on whatever setup matches your use.
