How Can I Use My Hypedome as a Garden Gym?

By Sarah Gill inGarden Room

Often the hardest part about exercising is just showing up at the gym. Because even if you enjoy breaking a sweat, it takes motivation, determination and time to achieve your fitness goals. But once you’re there, in that workout environment, it’s much easier to crush those lunges, pump some iron or practice your eight-angle yoga pose.

Installing a Hypedome garden gym is one way to overcome the hurdle of ‘showing up’ – because it’ll be so convenient to get into your workout zone. You don’t need to travel anywhere; simply walk (or jog) a few feet down your garden path.

You can also exercise for longer if you wish, knowing you don’t need to factor in time to get back home. Plus, by having your own outdoor gym, you can exercise privately. There’ll be no waiting around to use your favourite equipment and you won’t have to worry about anyone else looking at you while you’re perfecting your resting gym face.

So, how can you transform a garden igloo into a gym? Read on for tips on creating a personalised fitness space with a Hypedome.

1. Assess Your Outdoor Space

First, you’ll need to consider how much outdoor space you have available for a garden gym. Then decide what kind of exercise you like. Are you a cardio junkie, or do you prefer to hustle for muscle? Perhaps you’re a yogi? Whatever your workout preference, think about the type of equipment you’ll need to fit into your garden dome, as this will inform which size Hypedome to get.

Hypedomes come in three sizes:

  • Hypedome Mini – this size is perfect for a gym mat for core strength and stationary HIIT workouts like push-ups, squats, lunges, sit-ups – and brace yourself – mountain climbers (surely one of the most evil HIIT workouts). The Mini makes for a great yoga dome or pilates studio too.
  • Hypedome S – an excellent option if you have some equipment, such as a Bosu Ball and a self-powered rowing machine or exercise bike.
  • Hypedome M – our largest garden pod is best for when you need extra space for movement, e.g. Zumba, dance or aerobics. Or if you want to add more equipment or invite a couple of gym buddies to join you for your outdoor workout.

2. Prepare the Floor

You’ll need a sturdy and level floor inside your outdoor gym so you can exercise safely. If you don’t have solid decking or your garden dome is placed on grass, consider using our robust Insulated Modular Base, which is finished with an anti-slip top layer.

Add some cushioning to your workout routine and enjoy a more comfortable experience during high-impact exercises like jumping jacks and high knees. Anti-shock absorbing mats or rubber flooring are your go-to options for a softer landing and a more enjoyable workout.

3. Plan Your Garden Gym Layout

The highest point of a Hypedome is in the exact middle of the space. It’s perfect for activities such as intense jumping HIIT routines or heavy bench-pressing. For maximum impact, you may also want to position equipment like a spin bike or a self-powered elliptical trainer at the centre. Meanwhile, you can utilize the space closer to the wall to set up items like a rowing machine, Bosu Ball, or hand-held weight stacks.

4. Make Your Outdoor Gym Comfortable

Getting into peak shape can involve a lot of huffing, puffing and sweating. So it’s essential to ventilate your dome during and after a workout to prevent the humidity in the air from causing condensation. We recommend using two to three Window Panels for a garden gym. You can also leave the door open for a while and use a fan to help with air circulation and regulate the temperature.

So that your garden pod gym is always ready for use, keep it clean and well-maintained. After each session, take a moment to wipe down your equipment and neatly store away any loose items. Consider using Hype.Wall Pockets to keep your resistance bands and water bottles easily accessible. And why not get a freestanding storage rack for heavier or bulkier items like kettlebells, roll mats and towels?

Don’t let low light conditions hinder your garden gym workouts. If you plan on exercising during dawn or dusk, make sure you have sufficient lighting. Our Ambient LED Strip is an excellent option to consider, as it goes around the perimeter of your Hypedome and can be conveniently controlled via a smartphone app.

To simplify your start of the Hypedome adventure and give you a great price, we created a pre-configured Garden Gym Bundle, including the basic Hypedome accessories. It’s a convenient way to order all you need to create your outdoor gym in one go.

Every Day Can be a Gym Day with Hypedome

By using a garden pod as a gym, you can create your very own private workout space that’s designed solely for your needs. No more commuting, paying expensive subscription fees or having other gym-goers hog the equipment you want to use.

And as you’re busy smashing your health and fitness goals inside your Hypedome, you can look out beyond its walls and enjoy the views of your garden. That’ll give those endorphins an extra boost!
